First, we'd like to thank you for your curiosity and concern about our toes. We knew eventually we'd have to respond to the question many of you have NOT been afraid to ask. . . "Who's missing a toe?" Hopefully this will satisfy
most of you. Read the answer that best suits you.

"29 Toes"
=========================================================
For just the facts ma'am:
#1. No one is "missing" a toe. Period.
For those of you concerned with our safety and well being:
#2. Take a deep breath and rest assured that none of us has been maimed, mutilated or had an incisive accident involving any of our digits.
For the classical philosophers among you:
#3. As Aeschylus explains in classical literature, after Orestes killed his
mother (because she killed his father and started sleeping with his uncle) he was relentlessly haunted and hounded by the Furies -- those horribly nasty she-demons. After enduring their torment for many days, and tired of running
from them, he stopped in his tracks, bit off his little finger and flung it at them -- upon seeing that Orestes had given up a piece of himself to them, the Furies left him alone. We, three devoted musicians that we are, have metaphorically honored this tradition by giving up one of our toes to our muse -- may they acknowledge and appreciate our sacrifice, and grant us a lifetime of inspiration and beautiful music.
For those of you with foot fetishes:
#4. We'll stick with a "Don't ask, don't tell" policy on this one. We know you're out there but we'd rather not know who you are. Feel free to enjoy our toes all you like . . . from afar.
For the mathematicians, numerologists and those who really count:
#5. FIRST of all, we needed a prime number, and 29 is charged. If you're twenty-something or under, you may view it as the cusp of middle age. If you're thirty-something or over, it may especially look like a PRIME number.
SECOND, one of our fans wrote this about us: "Over the years, I've become impressed by the importance of three things, working together. Simple examples: a triangle is the most stable geometric structure. A three-legged
stool is more stable than a four-legged chair. An architectural drawing shows three angles (top, front, side), and if someone can understand how all 3 work together to show a single thing, then they'll understand that thing better than if they see it from only 1 angle."
Being the mathematicians that we are, we took that equation and applied it to that which we most solidly stand on, namely, our toes, multiplied it by three and subtracted one, because we DEFINITELY love to calculate things from more than one angle. That left ONE of us with 9, (which MUST be the ultimate in stability, being THREE THREES) and adding to the other two sets of toes made THREE sets again, rock solid.
THIRD, In numerology, the Expression number for "29 Toes" is the number 7. The hallmark of the number 7 is a good mind, and especially good at searching out and finding the truth, very capable of analyzing, judging and
discriminating with keen observation and deep understanding.
For those of you who appreciate blunt and rude behavior:
#6. Yer in a need-TA-know position, and ya don't need-TA-know. Besides, it's non of yer #@%^& Bizness!!
For those of you that think 29 Toes is a really, really silly name, has nothing to do with our music and could hurt our career:
#7.We'll agree with you on this point: 29 Toes has little or nothing do with our music . . . but consider these:
The Beatles
The Indigo Girls
The Cranberries
Swamp Mama Johnson
Hootie and the Blowfish
The Dixie Chicks
Four Bitchin' Babes
Bare Naked Ladies
The Motels
Matchbox 20
For the attorneys and those with legal interests:
#8. This firm represents Becca Christel, Tracy Spring and Janis Carper, doing business as "29 Toes" (formerly, "Christel, Spring & Carper"). As to your inquiry about the origin of the name "29 Toes" and whether the name might suggest that one the principals in 29 Toes has fewer than ten (10) toes. 29 Toes neither admits nor denies that one or more of the principals has more or fewer than ten (10) toes. Further, 29 Toes asserts that such information is
confidential and privileged as a trade secret and/or attorney client communication and is therefore not discoverable any legal proceeding that may now be pending or that may be commenced in the future. We hope that this letter has been helpful to you. Thank you for your inquiry.
For those who want the full boring story of how the name really came into being:
# 9. Becca and Janis were sitting in Becca's living room one afternoon drinking herbal tea while Tracy was stuck in traffic (remember the small plane crash on I-5 near Marysville?). To kill some time, Becca and Janis decided to go over the massive list of band name suggestions. They got down the list to where someone had suggested the name "Thirty Fingers," but to their ears, it sounded too much like "Dirty Fingers." Janis suggested Thirty Toes. They thought it still sounds like 'Dirty Toes' and who want's to be left with THAT picture!?" Becca (who has a web between the 2nd and 3rd toe on the right foot. . . pays to keep reading doesn't it?) suggested 29 toes. . . . They gut laughed for a while, liked the alliteration and the cleaner image, and then somehow it actually made it onto the list of names. You know how the story ends. You OVERWHELMINGLY voted for the name. We decided to take your advice and are now having fun being 29Toes!!
